If you grew up in the United States, the chances you and your family owned and used a Weber grill in the past is high. Why are they so popular? The dome shape charcoal grill, which many foodies swear gives the best flavor, traces its roots back to Weber Brothers Metal Works way back in 1887. The story of how Weber Grill comes about is quite interesting.
One of the key successes of a Weber grill lies in its timeless, simple, easy-to-use design. Coupled with its moderate cost, it has become highly attractive to those who want to try their hand with BBQ for the first time. For the BBQ die-hards, many also swear by their Weber. There are in fact many BBQ enthusiast groups who smoke and grill exclusively using Weber grills. It’s no wonder the Weber dome shaped charcoal grill is one of most popular grills of all-time.
BASIC WEBER CHARCOAL GRILLS
Weber grills comes in different sizes: 14”, 18” and 22”. Some have fancier features than others. Basically, you put charcoal and optionally wood in the bottom half of the dome, get the fire going, then start grilling. It’s worth noting that the bottom dome has an opening at the bottom that allows the ashes to drop to the tray below for easy cleaning. If you live in an apartment that does not have a lot of patio space, a 14-in Weber might be just ideal for you.
WEBER PERFORMER CHARCOAL GRILL
If you do have more space, you might want to consider their newer Weber Performer Premium Charcoal Grill which has a nice tabletop and a basket that allows you to store your charcoal. To help with starting the fire, a chimney starter is highly recommended.
One thing worth noting is that Weber Performer series also have a deluxe version that includes an Electronic Touch-N-Go Gas Ignition System. For those that don’t want to bother with starting a fire manually, this is another option worth considering. However, this would require you to have a small propane cannister connected to the grill.
When it comes to Weber brand grills, there are many choices to choose from that’s beyond what we discussed in this blog. For most of us, the black domed shape grill that’s uniquely Weber will always be fondly remembered as one of our favorite BBQ memories.
